Sharing just the notes carrying one tag
Send one topic, one project or one student's worth of notes instead of your whole library — and your tags travel with them, so they arrive organised on the other side.
A tag is usually the natural unit of sharing. You tagged everything you gathered on a subject, everything from one event, or everything you go over with one person — and that set, not your whole library, is what the other person actually wants.
JW Sync's note sharing works note by note, so a tag is simply the list you tick. The notes keep their tags on the way out, which means the person receiving them can filter for exactly the same set inside their own library afterwards.
Step by step
Make sure the notes carry the tag
Tag them in JW Library as you go, or open your backup in Study Explorer at jwsync.org and use the tag editor to add a tag to notes in bulk. Consistent tagging now is what makes sharing a one-minute job later.
Open the Share page and load your backup
Go to jwsync.org/share.html, choose Send notes and load your .jwlibrary file. It's read in your browser and never leaves your device.
Pick the tag from the filter, then Select all
The note picker has a tag filter listing every tag in your backup with the number of notes under it. Choose your tag and the list narrows to exactly those notes; Select all ticks the lot. That's the whole selection — two clicks.
Create the file and send it
JW Sync builds a small share file containing only the notes you ticked. Send it by chat, email or AirDrop — there is no server involved and no account on either side.
They add it to their own backup
The other person opens the same page, chooses Receive, previews the notes, and adds them to their backup. Your tags arrive with the notes, plus a label tag for the import, so the whole set is one filter away for them too.
Why share a tag rather than a backup
Handing over a full .jwlibrary backup gives away everything you have ever written, and restoring it would erase the other person's own notes. Sharing a tagged selection is the opposite on both counts: they see only what you chose, and they lose nothing of their own.
Narrowing further, or sharing across tags
The tag filter and the search box work together: pick a tag, then type a word to reduce it further, and Select all still ticks only what's in front of you. Searching also matches tag names, so a keyword shared by several tags gathers them in one pass. Each note in the list shows the tags it carries, so you can see what you're sending before you send it.
Tags to keep for sharing
It is worth keeping a few tags that exist purely to be shared — an event name, a subject you research for others, the person you study with. When the moment comes to send something, there is no hunting: the set is already assembled.

- Do my tags go across to the other person?
- Yes. Shared notes carry their tags, and the import is labelled with a tag of its own, so the receiver can find, review or remove the whole batch later.
- What if a note has several tags?
- It appears under each of them in the filter, and all of its tags travel with it. Filtering by one tag never strips the others.
- Does sharing remove the notes from my library?
- No. Sharing copies notes into a small file; your backup and your app are untouched.
- Can I send the same tag to several people?
- Yes — the share file is an ordinary file. Send it to as many people as you like, and each adds it to their own library independently.
