You've studied this material before. Here's a short weekly routine that surfaces your old notes, highlights and fill-in answers on the same publication before you prepare again.
Most people prepare each week from a blank page, even though they've written on the same subject — sometimes the same scripture — several times before. That earlier thinking is sitting in your library; the only problem is that nothing brings it back to you at the right moment.
A five-minute routine at the start of preparation fixes that, and it uses nothing but the backup you already have.
Step by step
Load a current backup in Study Explorer
Create a backup in JW Library, then open it at jwsync.org. Everything is read in your browser.
Search the subject before you start
Search for the theme scripture, the subject or the publication. Whatever you wrote on it in past years comes up together, across every publication it appears in.
Check your fill-in answers
The Study Answers view collects the answers you typed into study questions, so previous rounds through the same material are there to build on rather than repeat.
Add what's missing, then put it back
Notes can be edited or added right there — title, text, tags, highlight colour. Export the edited backup and restore it in JW Library, and your preparation is in the app for the meeting.
Why the old notes matter
Reviewing what you concluded last time turns preparation into something cumulative. You stop rediscovering the same points and start building on them — and the notes you add this week become next round's starting point.
A gentler version: let the notes come to you
If a weekly search feels like work, Resurface on the Study Stats page brings a few old notes back on its own each day, including ones you wrote on this date in past years. Same benefit, no routine to remember.

- Does editing in the browser change my library directly?
- No. You export an updated backup and restore it in JW Library — the app is only ever changed by a restore you perform yourself.
- Is my backup uploaded when I search it?
- No. The file is read locally in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
