Send the notes for a lesson — scriptures, illustrations, the points you prepared — straight into the other person's own JW Library, without touching anything they have written themselves.

When you prepare a study, most of the work ends up in your own notes: the extra scriptures, the illustration that made a point land, the answer to the question they asked last week. Reading it out is one thing; leaving them with a copy they can reread all week is another.

Note sharing puts your prepared notes into their library as real JW Library notes, attached to the same paragraphs and verses — not as a screenshot or a message they will scroll past.

Step by step

  1. Prepare the lesson's notes in JW Library

    Write the notes as you normally would, on the paragraphs and scriptures the lesson covers. Give them a tag — the person's name, or the publication — so the set is easy to select later.

  2. Open the Share page and load your backup

    Create a backup (Personal Study → Backup and Restore → Create a backup), then open jwsync.org/share.html, choose Send notes and load the file. It never leaves your device.

  3. Tick the notes for this lesson

    Filter the picker by the tag you used and hit Select all, or search and tick them one by one. Create the share file — everything else in your library stays where it is.

  4. Send it and walk them through receiving

    They need a backup of their own first — Personal Study → Backup and Restore → Create a backup. Then they open jwsync.org/share.html, choose Receive, load your file and their backup, and download the updated backup.

  5. They restore it in JW Library

    Backup and Restore → Restore, choose the updated file, and your notes appear in their library alongside their own — tagged, so they know which ones came from you.

Their notes are never overwritten

This is the important difference from sending a backup. A restore replaces a device's whole library; receiving shared notes adds to it. Anything they have written themselves — including on the very same paragraphs — stays exactly as it was.

A weekly rhythm that takes two minutes

Once both of you have done it a first time, the routine is short: prepare, tick, send, restore. Many find it easiest to send the notes right after preparing, so the student has them before the study rather than after.

Frequently asked questions

Does the student need an account or an app installed?
No account anywhere, and nothing to install beyond JW Library itself — the sharing page is an ordinary web page.
What if the student has never made a backup?
They make one first, in JW Library under Personal Study → Backup and Restore. Even an empty-looking library works; the backup is what the shared notes are added to.
Can I take the notes back later?
The file is yours to send or not send. Once someone has it, it is theirs, exactly like any message — so share what you would be comfortable sharing in writing.
